Millennials in Construction

The HISD Labor Compliance Program team operated by D. Samuels & Associates, LLC (DSA) recently connected with HISD contractors to discuss the development of a new program set out to engage, empower and employ millennials in the construction industry.
“Most of these programs are ran by people my age, but it’s time for a change” says DSA Managing Partner Darryl Samuels, “We now need our team of millennials to take over.”
The DSA $Million Blueprint Program is designed to educate and sync eager millennials with HISD bond contractors. In April of 2017, DSA hosted two meetings with HISD contractors to discuss the need for millennials in the construction industry. Representatives from B3Ci Construction, Cherry Companies, EDH Plumbing, Oxford Builders, Gonzalez Electric as well as the City of Houston Hire Houston Youth and the Gulf Coast United Way Thrive Programs all attended the meetings and provided great feedback on how to expand the current work pool for the industry. We gave them a small preview of the new program, assessed their constructions skills and debated just how we would establish meaningful connections that would fill their needs on the job site.
On Monday May 1, DSA launched a pilot program for the $Million Blueprint, and has begun collecting applications for both interested employers and program participants. We believe that this program could be the missing link that could create a solid foundation amongst millennials and the construction industry.
